WHAT IS A GENERAL INTERNIST?

A general internal medicine specialist, or internist, is a physician who specializes in all parts of the body. They assist family doctors and emergency doctors in diagnosing and treating disease.

EDUCATION

All general internal medicine specialists must complete an undergraduate degree, medical school, three years of residency, and two year of fellowship training. Many internists go one to obtain further training in a specific clinical area, research, or administrative area. All internists in Canada are registered with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada , which requires continuing medical education throughout one’s career
