Dr. Birinder K. Mangat

MD, MPH, FRCPC

Dr. Birinder K. Mangat is a Specialist in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and a UBC Clinical Assistant Professor. She completed her MD and Internal Medicine residency at UBC and served as Chief Medical Resident at St. Paul's Hospital. She went on to complete her GIM fellowship at the University of Calgary. She has completed additional training in hypertension and is an ASH Specialist in Clinical Hypertension. She holds a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University. She subsequently went on to obtain training in Obesity Medicine.

Currently, Dr. Mangat runs Hypertension and Vascular Medicine clinics at St. Paul’s Hospital. Additionally, she has established and is the Medical Director of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Hypertension Clinic. She works on inpatient GIM services, including Clinical Teaching Units and Consultation Services. She practices Obesity Medicine at Metacare Clinic.


Dr. Mangat is an engaging speaker who has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and Continuing medical education events. She participates in Hypertension and Vascular Medicine research, and is involved in creating Hypertension guidelines in BC and Canada. In addition, she has worked for the World Hypertension League and has published several peer-reviewed articles. She has a passion for medical education and is actively involved in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students.


Dr. Mangat is passionate about empowering patients to manage their chronic diseases, through compassionate, evidence-based and individualized therapy.


In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, baking, and travelling.


Dr. Faraz Moein Vaziri

MD, FRCPC

Dr Moein Vaziri is a General Internal Medicine specialist with additional training and special interest in obesity medicine, thrombosis medicine, and cardiovascular risk optimization.

He completed his medical school at University of British Columbia and residency program in Internal Medicine at McGill University. During his General Internal Medicine fellowship he trained in thrombosis medicine and subsequently had extra training in Obesity medicine. 

Dr Moein vaziri is a member of General Internal Medicine group at Surrey Memorial Hospital and has established Internal Medicine Thrombosis clinic at Jim Pattison Outpatient Center in Surrey. He is a Clinical Instructor at University of British Columbia and has an active role in teaching medical students and residents.

In his spare time Dr Moein Vaziri enjoys traveling, hiking, watching sports and reading books about politics and history.

Dr. Sharnjeet Kahlon

MD, MHA, FRCPC

Dr. Kahlon is Royal College certified Internal Medicine specialist and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia. She is an internist at Surrey Memorial Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital where she has an active inpatient role and supervises medical learners. Dr. Kahlon has developed an expertise in Obesity management and cardiovascular risk stratification and has undertaken extra medical education to support this role. In addition to her clinical practice, she has held leadership positions to develop a robust Internal Medicine program at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Her research interests and publications include obesity and its impact on patient outcomes as well as reviewing frailty and patient care.

Dr. Kahlon is dedicated to empathic, quality driven medical management and is a strong advocate for patient centered care.
